Illustration Friday : Parade

In School, we had to endure half an hour of morning assembly everyday... And there was no way of escaping it, unless if you fainted or were late for school, but if you did you'd have to stay out in the sun anyways...

It started with a prayer, and then it went on to the news, and then a happy birthday song for anyone whose was born on that day and some years ago, and then some announcements by the principal or vice principal, and finally the national anthem...

I changed my school after the tenth and joined army school... in the vast grounds and the morning prayer accompanied by drums and the harmonium, every morning assembly felt like a parade (:P) ...

We had a school song as well. Once a week, we'd replace the morning prayer with the school song... the words go somewhat like this...

We are children Happy and Gay,
Strongly united, walking all the way,
We are from Army school proudly say,
Always we know and firmly say,

A for amity and Aspiration
R for ready to help anyone,
M for morals we keep with us,
Y for young and yet courageous.

Army school we sing and declare,
we will shine every where,
.....

i forget the rest...

We'd always meddle up the second line.... :P

A new Beginning

I worked in the studio after a really really long time today... Felt like a special occasion... Spent most of the day at chai gate... :D

Ahmedabad

You can't survive in Ahmedabad's summer without an A.C. or at least a cooler... But filling it with water everyday is quite a pain... and then the humidity... oh God!!

Illustration Friday : Hierarchy

So... its been a long time since my last illustration friday post...

I've been working on somethings, not been working on other things... playing a lot of computer games... like RA3... and er... hmm... basically a lot of RA3 and its expansion... i'm living in the hostel with my batchmates, and there are just three of them left, everyone else has left for their diploma projects, and the juniors have left for home... so the hierarchy(seniority) in the hostel has been abandoned for now... and now i can only dominate are troops of Mecha Tengus and Striker-VX's against my computer opponent... :P

Pre Dip

After we gave our final jury, we decided to put up our Pre-diploma display for the entire community to see... Having seen my seniors put up their pre dips before, i knew what we had to put up, but also what we had to live up to... Most of our seniors had individual pre dips, and they had loads of work... great work... i don't know about my batchmates but i was scared... a pre dip is not just any display, it is what you have learnt in the past four years over here in NID... and i didn't know if a small cubicle was enough for me to show anything at all... i didn't know if i had enough work to fill a small cubicle....

We put up our display, all of us except Hunny, she'd fled and was chilling in Bombay... (I've heard rumors of her planning to put up a predip, later, all by herself...)

Things went well, we were one day late in putting up our display, but we extended the timing to compensate for our tardiness...

As far as Pre dips go, ours was just like any other...Poster(s) around campus... Our work stapled on the softboards... and our films played in the computers on the side... Feedback books lying open for any passerby to comment on...

I was happy that it was up but i didn't quite feel like celebrating the beginning of the end of my stay in NID...

*sigh*

Color

Here's one problem that i face... i'm scared of color... well... sometimes... and not really scared... it's not like i can't use color... but i'm so comfortable with the pencil or the pen that i refrain from using the brush... about a month back, i forced myself to use color, on a random sketch... Acrylic paint!!! Something that i hadn't used since character design... I was quite happy with the result as the entire ordeal was quite impromptu...



I regret to say that i haven't touched any colors since... :P

I'm a fan of A cappella music... My only source of any such music is Youtube, but the videos posted there, although very good are usually the work of other amateur A cappella enthusiasts... One day, or rather, one night as i was rummaging through Youtube going through some more amateur videos, i came across the video above...
The song stuck... and it stayed stuck...
for several days...
and nights...
and through night mess ...

Self Portrait

I had never done a realistic portrait of myself, always preferring what i thought i looked like to what i really looked like, but some days ago i came across a picture of myself where i didn't mind looking at myself. I said to myself, "God! I'm beautiful!", and so, i went ahead and drew myself...

there was no cigarette in the picture, but i felt like adding it and so i did...

Dubey claims i look like a Chinky Mafia Ganglord... :P

It has been about 4 months since i last posted!

I'm ashamed of myself... i promised myself i wouldn't do this... and here we are again... *sigh*

Storyboard... er... what storyboard? LOOK! A girl with a knife!

I was making some changes to my storyboard when i got tired doing it... picked up my sketch book and started making some sketches... made a comic strip and some other sketches, some that i quite liked(and shall eventually upload later)... this was the last sketch of a day which could have seen a finished storyboard... but no... spent a considerable amount of time on this particular sketch... enjoy... :D

A portrait

My aunt's colleague had asked me to make a portrait of his deceased father... here's the result... not quite happy with it... as it looks a bit, actually quite different than him... but anyways...

I had gone for a "business meeting" today, regarding some freelance work... While we waited for the head honcho to show up, we were asked if we wanted something to drink... some tea or coffee... this came to my mind then... I so wanted to say it, just couldn't push myself to do it... Thank god i have a blog to do this... :P

Sleepless Work 2

I've been having trouble with my fan... it's been making a lot of noise... and Pawar, who lives on top has been having sleepless nights... i really didn't have a problem... i can sleep through most anything... but he can't... he went and got the electrician and fixed the fan... twice... :)

i wish everything would get solved like that... :D

The hostel illustration competition

Once in a while the people in our hostel get really excited and decide to have competitions for illustrations, using any software and in a limited time.

Two days back we had one... and the topics were

1) A crocodile sneaking up on a rubber duck with a red band around its neck. (half an hour, color, limited background)

2) A kid wearing his underwear sucking his toe.(fifteen minutes, only line art)

and here's my attemt at the two... i couldn' finish the first one... i spent too much time making the bubbles and trying to make the marble texture... i'll finish that one sometime soon and post again...

 Line art is my favorite round because i can finish the sketch in time, and i can add detail... :D

the third one is my preliminary sketch of the concept... over which i applied some watercolor later on... i wished i could achieve the same in photoshop... :P
